One of the most impressive standing monuments from Yemen's past is the ‘Amiriyya madrasa in Rada‘, from the 16th century Tahirid era. Reconstruction on the madrasa began in 1983 with a major project funded by the Netherlands and mainly due to the inspiration and hard restoration work of Dr. Selma al-Radi (1939-2010), a long time friend and supporter of AIYS.
Selma published a history of the madrasa and the project to restore it in 1997 with Oxford University Press.
Recently a model of the madrasa was created.
