One of the best books ever published about Yemen in English is the masterful set of articles on the city of Ṣan‘ā', edited by R. B. Serjeant and Ronald Lewcock in 1983 for the World of Islam Festival Trust. This book has been out of print for some time, but there is a pdf available online here. Note that it is 133mb and takes awhile to download. I attach the table of contents below:
