- The Queen of Sheba and Solomon: it's not
just a Biblical epic but an important tale with numerous tellings
in Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Among the Arabic accounts is
that of Abû Ishâq Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn
Ibrâhîm al-Nîsâbûrî, known as
al-Tha'labî (died 1035-36 C.E.), a well-known commentator on
the Quran. In this short book, Giovanni Canova provides an Italian
translation of al-Tha‘labî's story preceded by an
informative introduction. For those who don't read Italian, check
out the thorough treatment of this story in Demonizing the
Queen of Sheba by J. Lassner (reviewed in Yemen
Update 35
(1994)).
