The traditional agricultural lore of Yemeni farmers is conserved in oral tradition through the poems
of two mythical persons, Ali Wald Zayid and Humayd b. Mansur. Together the two volumes constitute
the first study of this genre in the Arabic language.

a video project of Caterina Borelli supported by a fellowship from AIYS using Department of State/ECA

How to order AIYS publications
Directly from AIYS: Yemen Update only
Yemen Update, published semi-annual through 1995, annually after that, is archived
on-line two years after publication date. Back issues of Yemen
Update may be ordered from the AIYS office. Issues 1-27 (=AIYS Newsletter) $3.50 per issue; back
issues of Yemen Update from #28/29-through #38, $7.50 per issue; from #39 through #42, $15.00 per
issue; #43ff. $30.00 per issue.
AIYS can only accept prepaid orders, and charges a handling
fee of $8.50 for the first item and $3.50 for each additional item in the same order.
Handling fees do not apply to subscriptions to Yemen Update for issues not yet published.
At present AIYS cannot accept payments by credit card. Checks or postal money orders,
drawn in U.S. dollars, should be made payable to AIYS and mailed to:
