Tips for Educators
Facts about Turkey (CIA World Factbook)

Sheets from this map of Turkey are to be found in several of the American Overseas Research Centers around the Mediterranean, but nowhere is it complete. By using the Medmaps database researchers can locate the sheets they need either at Cyprus American Archaeological Research Institute, American Research Institute in Turkey (Ankara), or the Blegen Library in Athens. The map was produced by the Turkish Directorate for Cartography (Genel Harita Müdürlügü), and it is an example of the relationship between cartography and statecraft. Maps of this sort can be used by individual states to foster ideas about the boundaries of a country, the nature and extent of its administration, and about its economic growth and natural resources.
