Malian linguist

Mahamadu Konta is a Malian linguist and an activist for the promotion of the use of Mali’s languages. He is one of the founders and the President of Le Club des Amis des Langues Nationales au Mali which was established at Baguineda, Mali, in 1991. His tireless efforts have contributed to enhancing the status of Malian languages in Mali.

Konta was born in Bamako in 1957. He studied at a Qur’anic school and continued in the government school system. After graduating from the ENSec-Badalabougou, he worked in San, Dili, Dioliba, and Baguinda and returned to Bamako in 1995 to study national languages at ENSup. His first book was published in 1995: Npalan, a collection of poems in Bambara.

Mahamadu Kònta est un linguiste malien et un activiste qui défend l’usage des langues du Mali et l’un des fondateurs et le Président actuel du Club des Amis des Langues Nationales au Mali (Calan-Mali) à Baguinéda, Mali, en 1991. Ses efforts inlassables ont contributé à accroitre le prestige des langues maliennes au Mali.

Konta est né à Bamako en 1957. Il a suivi ses études à une école coranique et puis il a continué au système gouvernmental. Après avoir reçu un diplôme de l’Ecole Normale Secondaire de Badalabougou, il a travaillé à San, Dili, Dioliba, et Baguinda et il est retourné à Bamako en 1995 pour étudier les langues nationales à l’Ecole Normale Superieure. Son premier livre a paru en 1995: Npalan, un recueil de poèmes en bamanankan.
