A New Digital Resource for Access to Middle East
Research Journals
The Council of American Overseas Research Centers and the Digital Library
for International Research program are very pleased to announce the launch
of "Middle
East Research Journals," a new digital web resource that provides
free access to journals published in the Middle East. This resource is
designed for use by the general public, college and university educators,
and students nationwide. It includes:
• A searchable Online
Union Catalog of library resources from the American Overseas Research
Centers including over 2,000 Middle East Journals cataloged by this project.
• A searchable index searchable
index to three key titles in Middle East studies:
• Journal of the Palestine Oriental Society, Jerusalem, 1920-1948
• Quarterly of the Department of Antiquities in Palestine, London,
1931-1950
• Sumer, Baghdad, 1945-1959, 1960-1965, update to 1966-2000
• A digital
library with the full text of five noteworthy Middle East journals:
• Arkeoloji Dergisi, Izmir, 1991-1998
• Arkeoloji-sanat Tarihi Dergisi, Izmir, 1984-1996
• Bogazici University Journal-Beseri Bilimler, Istanbul, 1973-1981
• Bulletin of the Israel Exploration Society, 1933-1967
• Revue archéologique syrienne, Aleppo, 1931-1938
• Preservation microfilm of the following five titles has been
stored at the Center for Research
Libraries.
• Arkeoloji Dergisi, Izmir, 1991-1998
• Arkeoloji-sanat Tarihi Dergisi, Izmir, 1984-1996
• Bogazici University Journal-Beseri Bilimler, Istanbul, 1973-1981
• CEDAC Carthage Bulletin (Centre d'Études et de Documentation
Archéologique de la Conservation de Carthage), Tunis, 1978-1997
• Revue archéologique syrienne, Aleppo, 1931-1938
The "Middle East Research Journals" project was created with
the generous support of the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
We are excited to share this new resource with you and expect it to engage
scholars in new ways as they study the history, geography, and culture
of the countries in the Middle East region. Please feel free to explore
this and other international resources in the Digital Library for International
Research, including Digital books from West Africa, Maps from Mediterranean
Lands, and a Photo Archive from the Center for Art and Archaeology in
India.
